This hidden area is the West Var between the naval port of Toulon and the hills that surround Marseille.
Here are the coastal towns of Sanary, Bandol and St. Cyr Les Lecques, the old hilltop villages of La Cadière d’Azur, Le Castellet and Evenos, and the market town of Le Beausset. Surrounding these are the vineyards of the prodigious Bandol appellation (protected by law from redevelopment), together with the olive groves and pine forests on the southern slopes of the Sainte Beaume mountain that gives the area its micro-climate.
It is a haven for nature lovers with its flowers and wildlife, and superb walks either in the hills or the coastal footpaths. For sports there are of course watersports (it is a renowned windsurfing area) together with golf, tennis, horse riding, etc.
Unlike many areas of Provence that are cold and deserted outside the summer the West Var is an area where people live or visit all year round, and getting there is easy.
There are airports close by at Marseille and Toulon with well established flights to several UK airports and worldwide international connections.
It is only some 6 hours from London by TGV and the autoroute runs through the area.
